Do you remember hearing about or going to Tupperware Parties? Well, if not, here goes. People would gather at a home and the hostess would describe and sell Tupperware, which are plastic containers used for storing food. The parties were very successful. A Posture Party is similar, but no one tries to sell anything? It makes us sad that on YouTube people with much less professional training than ours are proclaiming themselves Posture Experts or Posture Geeks. That should be us. To achieve that end, Dr. Lewis has put together a course that will enable you to give a concise, information packed 20 to 30 minute talk on posture to neighbors, friends and family. This course contains a video of Dr. Carole Lewis giving a posture talk with beautiful slides. Learn how to set up a Posture Party (or if you prefer, a talk on posture). Then watch a real Posture Party in action as Dr. Lewis leads a group of women in understanding the importance of posture, how to assess their own posture, and what to do to improve it. Dr. Lewis uses evidence based studies to substantiate every aspect of her (and now your) talk. Watch as she teaches how posture affects pain and morbidity and then demonstrates several ways to evaluate posture. She also demonstrates numerous exercises that can improve posture and discusses when people should seek professional care. What makes this a party is offering some light appetizers before the talk and maybe hosting a potluck dinner after the presentation. If you prefer to skip the party and just concentrate on the educational piece, that is fine too. You can easily give this talk at a senior center, church, or library just to name a few places. You can download and personalize the PowerPoint, sample invitations, and handouts for your own posture party. This is not a substitute for an appointment with a therapist. It is meant to build awareness and to offer some simple techniques and ergonomic modifications to improve posture. If participants need more, then this Posture Party helps them to see the benefits of seeking in depth help, probably from you. You can make a difference in your community. Sharing your vast knowledge of posture with patients, friends, and family in an interesting, fun setting has never been easier. Be creative and have fun!
