Course overview

Patients who suffer from right hemisphere stroke on average have poorer outcomes and are more often institutionalized than those with left hemisphere stroke. This is due to a constellation of deficits and impairments that are more typical of this group. These issues can be difficult to overcome and have frustrated many a therapist attempting to help them regain functional independence. In this course we will take a hard look at the literature and outline the current state of evidence for the most effective treatment options for each of these unique conditions. This course will cover the key characteristics of hemispatial neglect and contraversive pushing. It will focus on how to objectively measure them and the impairments they cause and teach the best evidence for intervention for each of these conditions. Attendees will understand typical outcomes and prognoses so that you can better assist patients and families with planning.
