Nursing CE questions, answered.

  • How many CEUs do nurses need to renew their license?

Most boards require 24–30 contact hours every two years for RNs and LPNs. APRNs typically need 30–50 hours plus pharmacology. The exact total depends on your state.

  • What counts as a contact hour for nursing CE?

Typically 50-60 minutes of instructional time, depending on your state board. Most states accept courses from accredited providers (ANCC, AACN, state-approved). Every course in CE Broker is accepted by your board.

  • Is CE Broker the official tracking system for my state board?

In several states — including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, New Mexico, and Tennessee. Elsewhere, we track your hours and certificates; you submit to the board manually if required.

  • Do my completions get reported to the board automatically?

Yes. If you take a course on the CE Broker platform. Some providers report completions through CE Broker in real time. Credit appears on your dashboard immediately, no PDF uploads.

  • Is CE Broker free for nurses?

A Basic account is free and provides compliance tracking, a course history, and a list of requirements. Upgraded accounts show you requirements and posted hours for individual subjects, a Credential Tracker, and another option includes courses in the price of the subscription.
